ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan said that Pakistanis willing to further enhance its existing cooperation with Iran in powersector.
He said this during a meeting with Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan MehdiHonardoost in Islamabad on Monday.
Ayub Khan assured that Power Division will soon hold comprehensivediscussion with Iranian side on renewal of agreement for 100 MW electricityimport to Pakistan from Iran.
Both sides reiterated to continue jointly exploring further avenues in thefield of power generation and transmission.
Iran is the largest exporter and importer of electricity in the Middle Eastand exports power to Pakistan, Turkey, Iraq and Afghanistan. Azerbaijan andArmenia supply electricity to Iran under swap agreements.
Last year Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost had said his country was ready tosupply up to 3,000 megawatts of electricity to Pakistan.
