India hands over list of 347 Pakistani prisoners in Indian Jails

NEW DELHI – India has handed over a list of 347 Pakistani prisoners to thePakistani High Commission on Tuesday.

Earlier Pakistan handed over a list of 537 Indian prisoners to the IndianHigh Commission in Islamabad. These include fifty four civil and fourhundred and eighty three fishermen.

Responding to the Pakistani positive step, the Indian government shared thelist of Pakistani prisoners with Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.

According to a press release issued by the Foreign Office, this step isconsistent with the provisions of the *Consular Access Agreement*linkbetweenPakistan and India signed on May 21, 2008, under which both countries arerequired to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody twice ayear on 1st January and 1st July, respectively.
