Pakistan summons US Ambassador in Islamabad, seeks explanation

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan in an unusual gesture has responded hard to the USPresident Donald Trump’s tweet regarding the allegations over the supportto the terrorists.

The Pakistan Foreign Office summoned US Ambassador David Hale on Mondaynight and lodged its protest against US President Donald Trump’s tweetwherein he accused Pakistan of “lies and deceit”, Express News reported.

The US Embassy confirmed that Ambassador Hale was summoned by the ForeignOffice at 9pm.

Sources said Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua sought an explanation fromthe ambassador over the American president’s tweet.

Earlier, Trump tweeted that the US ‘foolishly’ gave aid to Pakistan overthe course of 15 years but Islamabad remained deceitful by providing safehavens to ‘terrorists’ from Afghanistan.

“The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billiondollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing butlies and deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven tothe terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!,” Trumpsaid in his tweet.

In May 2016, Pakistan had summoned the US ambassador to express itsreservations over a drone strike inside its territory that reportedlykilled Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mansoor.
