ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday handed over a list of 457 Indianprisoners in Pakistan to the High Commission of India in Islamabad.
Of these prisoners, 399 are fishermen who had crossed into Pakistani watersand 58 other civilians.
The statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said handing overthe list is consistent with the provisions of the Consular Access Agreementbetween Pakistan and India, signed on May 21, 2008, under which bothcountries are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’scustody twice a year, on January 1 and July 1, respectively.
The statement further said that Pakistan will release 146 fishermen onJanuary 8, 2018.
The Indian government will also hand over the list of Pakistani prisonersto Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
