WASHINGTON: Pentagon announces to send more US Marines on ground in Iraq

WASHINGTON: Pentagon announced to send more US Marines against ISIS on ground in Iraq after the killing of a US Marine and several others injured in a rocket attack by ISIS in northern Iraq.

Pentagon said “The 26th MEU is deployed to maintain regional security in Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Arabian Sea and parts of Indian Ocean.”

The troops will support Iraqi forces to hold ground operations against ISIS militants.

The exact number of troops is not disclosed yet.

The dead Marine has been identified as Sgt. Louis F. Cardin, 27 years old.

This is the second casuality of a US official in Iraq since combat operation began in 2014.

Pentagon official said “Sgt. Cardin was providing force protection fire support at a recently established coalition fire base near Makhmur in northern Iraq.”

Currently 3,700 troops are fighting against ISIS in Iraq.

Army General Lloyd Austin claimed that our gratitude and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends and Cardin’s contributions will be remembered by US.
