WASHINGTON: Facebook starts Safety Check Service in wake of Brussels Attacks

WASHINGTON: Facebook has started Safety Check Service in the wake of Brussels Attacks to allow those who are in Brussels to inform their friends and family that they are safe.

The service was used for the first time in October 2014 which asks its users to notify to their friends of their safety if they are in the affected area.

Facebook said “Quickly find and connect with friends in the area. Mark them safe if you know they’re OK.”

Twitter has also launched a similar service with #OpenHouse hashtag used by those who offered shelter in the affected area.

Earlier, Brussels was hit in a series of 7 bomb attack at Airport and Metro stations near the NATO headquarters which led to death of dozens and wounded hundreds.

The attacks came just after the days of arrest of the Paris attacks master mind Salah Abdesalam from Brussels.

Belgian Interior Ministry has also released footage of suspected attackers at airport lounge.

Other countries of European Union have cut off their road links with Brussels after the attack.

No one has claimed the responsibility yet but Belgian authorities claimed that ISIS is behind the attacks.
