US General presents Forces future deployment plan in Afghanistan to Pentagon
WASHINGTON: US General Joe Dunford presented forces future deployment plan in Afghanistan for next year to Pentagon.

He claimed that US troops are expected to drop from 9,800 to 5,500 in January 2017 but officials have to rethink about it due to Taliban’s success in the recent days.

He said “I have crafted a recommendation to the secretary of defence. The secretary and myself at some point in the future will bring those recommendations forward to the president."

He urged US and NATO to determine troops level in Afghanistan to counter the rising threat of Taliban.

Taliban have boosted their campaign against Kabul government and captured some area after the NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2014.

US Commander in Afghanistan General John Nicholson claimed to make a proposal within 90 days upon his posting on March 2.

But General Dunford refused to wait and said “NATO… have to make a decision on what forces would be deployed in January of ’17 and then they have to train those force in the next six months, so we can’t wait 90 days for an assessment in Afghanistan before we move forward.”
