Top Kashmiri Leadership arrested in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Authorities in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK) arrested Yasin Malik and put under house arrest the joint resistance leadership including Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to prevent a march in Kulgam on Wednesday.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the joint resistance leadership comprising of Geelani, Farooq and Malik gave a call for the march to express solidarity with the families of six youth who were martyred by Indian forces on Sunday.

A Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) spokesman said that a police party raided the residence of JKLF Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik in Maisuma area of Srinagar on Wednesday night and arrested him.

The authorities have also placed the Hurriyet Forum Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest, while the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman Syed Ali Gilani is already under house detention.
