Theresa May assassination attempt foiled: MI5

London: The United Kingdom security forces on late Tuesday claimed to have foiled suicide bomb plot to assassinate the Prime Minister Theresa May, local media reported.

According to the details, the alleged conspiracy was foiled after a joint operation carried out  by Scotland Yard, West Midlands Police and MI5.

Security chiefs stepped in amid fears the men were preparing to launch an attack to assassinate UK Prime Minister, arresting them at gunpoint.

It is learnt that two suspected men were conspiring to attack Downing Street armed with an improvised bomb, suicide vest and knives. However, it does not appear they were able to obtain or build any explosives.

Officials said it was the 22nd foiled plot since March as hundreds of terrorist suspects remain under investigation.
