Survival of wildlife, forestry Resources projects worth Rs. 4.7 billion launched

ISLAMABAD: (APP) The government has approved PC-Is for two key project 'Survival of Wildlife Resources' and 'Survival of Forestry Resources' under the Green Pakistan Programme (GPP) that would be executed at a cost of Rs 4.776 bln
"Rs 1.124 billion will be spent on `Survival of Wildlife Resources in Pakistan' and Rs 3.652 billion for the `Survival of Forest Resources in Pakistan," official sources in the Ministry of Climate Change told APP Monday.
They said preservation and management of forest and wildlife resources of the country needs to be adequately developed in line with the best international practices,
The federal government was playing an effective role in all initiatives under the umbrella of Revival of Forestry and Wildlife Resources in Pakistan, the sources added.
They said "The Prime Minister also issued directions for revival and management of internationally recognised wildlife habitats including Khunjrab National Park (GB), Khirthar National Park (Sindh), Hingol National Park (Balochistan), Chitral Gol National Park (KPK), Lal Suhana National Park and Salt Range area (Punjab), Machiara National Park (AJK) and Margalla Hills National Park (ICT)."
Under the GPP, they said protection and management of wildlife, reclaiming and developing forest areas were the main aspects of the programme.
Besides, two more projects under the GPP for `Strengthening Zoological Survey of Pakistan' and `Report on State of Forestry in Pakistan' were in pipeline and expected to be approved soon.
The Prime Minister, the sources said, had directed the Ministry of Climate Change to develop a proposal for strengthening Zoological Survey of Pakistan so as to immediately undertake inventory of endangered wildlife species and habitats across the country.
Ministries of Climate Change and Science and Technology will lead the regular stock-take of deforestation and forest degradation on periodic basis for producing "Report on State of Forestry in Pakistan".
The GIS laboratory in Punjab and Forest Inventory in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will help in maintaining the report while SUPARCO will extend technical support by providing images.
