Supreme Court disposes off petition over accountability of Judges and Generals

ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Monday objected to a constitutional petition that sought the inclusion of the words sadiq and ameen (honest and righteous) in the text of oaths for the offices of judges and army generals.
In his petition, Barrister Zafarullah Khan of the Watan Party asked the apex court not to take over the jurisdiction of the parliament. The barrister sought accountability of the judges by parliamentary committees since, he claimed, the judiciary has failed to conduct its own accountability.
Objecting to the petition during Monday's proceedings, the SC said that the request was based on mala fide intent.
The court added that the petition could not be entertained as it had neither approached any other forum to seek relief nor provided reason for not doing so.
