Supreme Court denies report regarding ISI

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has denied reports of media which suggested that ISI has been given the charge of the Panama JIT by the Apex court and issued show cause notice to the media group and the Journalist over the fake news.

Earlier the Joint Investigation Team formed by the Supreme Court to probe matters relating to Panama Papers, submitted its final report today before a three-member bench of the apex court.  

The implementation bench, constituted as a consequence of a judgement of the larger bench, is headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal. Other members of the bench include Justice Ejazul Ahsan and Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh.

The six-member investigation team, led by Deputy Director General FIA Wajid Zia, was given sixty days to complete the task. 

The team held numerous sessions at Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad during which Hussain Nawaz, elder son of the Prime Minister, appeared before it for six times; Prime Minister's younger son Hassan Nawaz three times and his daughter Maryam Nawaz once.       

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif himself appeared before the JIT on 15th of last month and Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif appeared on the 17th.

Among others who appeared before the Commission to record their statements and respond to queries included Chairman NAB Qamar Zaman Chaudhary and son-in-law of the Prime Minister retired Captain Muhammad Safdar.       

Apart from its final report, the JIT also submitted before the implementation bench of the Supreme Court fortnightly reports.
