Shah Mehmood Qureshi rages at government in Parliament

ISLAMABAD, May 19 (APP): Shah Mehmood Qureshi rages out a government on charges in Parliamentary Committee

The National Assembly on Thursday adopted a resolution to set-up 12 members parliamentary committee for finalizing Terms of Reference (TORs) to investigate Panama Leaks.

The resolution moved by Law Minister Zahid Hamid was adopted unanimously.

Earlier, the rules were suspended to move the resolution that included 16 member parliamentary committee having 8 members each from the opposition and the treasury.

However, the oppositions members particularly Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Shah Mehmmod Qureshi raised objections and said that same consensus resolution signed by the parliamentary parties should be passed which included 12 members.

Leader of the Opposition, Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that for the time being members of the parliamentary committee should be kept 12 instead of 16 as the opposition has not yet decided on this issue.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that after three hours talks in the Speaker's chamber on Wednesday it was agreed upon that parliamentary committee should comprise 12 members (8 each from both sides).

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said they were ready to keep 12 members but last night Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) contacted him that MQM had 25 seats in the National Assembly but it was not accommodated in the parliamentary committee.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that if MQM was part of the opposition then it should contact Leader of the Opposition instead of contacting the government.

Federal Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique said that it was mentioned in the document that Speaker of National Assembly would hold consultation with Leader of the Opposition and parliamentary leaders of all political parties. He said that MQM should not be deprived of representation in the parliamentary committee.

Asif Husnain of MQM said if MQM was part of parliament then it should be informed about reasons of not giving representation.

He said that the parliamentary committee could not achieve its objectives for which it was being made if MQM was not included in it.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said that all political parties would decide about it through consultation in the Speaker's Chamber.
