Senate Standing Committee rejects bill to convert PIA into a limited corporation

ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee for Cabinet Secretariat has rejected the bill to convert PIA into a Limited Corporation. Chairman Committee Talha demanded 60 days for reviewing the bill.

 

As per details, PML-N member Kalsum Perveen also opposed the bill. Senate Standing Committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Talha here at Monday.

 

The meeting rejected the bill of converting PIA into a limited corporation. While addressing the meeting, Senator Talha said that we cannot take any decision to review the bill within 12 days. We need minimum 60 days to review the bill.

 

He added that we want to hear the stance of all stakeholders before the approval of bill. Shahi Syed, member of committee said that he has reservations over mechanism of privatization and on PIA bill.

 

Senator Kamil Ali Agha said that the method of privatization is wrong and we do not accept it. Senator Kalsum Perveen said that required information have not been given by government over the matter of privatization while there is much difference in privatization and strategic partnership.

 

She added that our reservations have not addressed by government so we cannot approve the bill immediately.
