Russia gives Afghanistan 10,000 Kalashnikovs
MOSCOW: Russia delivered 10,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles to Afghan government which will be used for the fight against terrorism.

 

Russian ambassador Alexander Mantytskiy delivered the assault rifles to Afghan National Security adviser Hanif Atmar during a ceremony at a military airfield in Kabul.

 

Hanif Atmar said “We are trying to continue our efforts for peace, but in the meantime our nation should have the ability to defend it.”

 

He claimed that terrorism is a threat not only to country and region but also to “our friends in Russia.”

 

The Russian delivery came a day after QCG meeting with Taliban in Kabul.

 

Pakistan, China and US are struggling for peace in Afghanistan by negotiating with Kabul.

 

The first face to face talk between Afghan government and Taliban is expected to be held in the first week of March.

 

Afghan forces are fighting with Taliban and insurgent groups who are targeting Afghan forces.

 

Taliban have boosted their attacks against Afghan forces after the withdrawn of NATO forces in 2014.

 

US has continued drone strikes and providing advisory assistance to Afghan forces despite sending its troops in the battlefield.

 

Russian diplomat claimed that it’s a gift for Kabul and Moscow will continue to cooperate with Afghanistan.

 

Afghanistan has also demanded more Russian made arms including small arms, artillery to attack helicopters.
