Power shortfall rises drastically, load shedding to increase further

LAHORE : Power shortfall has hit 6,000 Mega Watt by Monday causing increased power outages in both rural and urban areas.
Reportedly, Tarbela power plant is adding 400 MW to the national grid whereas its maximum potential is 3,500 MW. Mangla power house is producing 450 MW compared to its maximum capacity of 1050 MW causing a huge imbalance in supply and demand.
Sources privy to National power Control Centre have reported that country’s power demand has hit 16,500 MW against total current production of 10,500 MW leading to increased power outages in both urban and rural areas across Pakistan.
Reportedly, urban areas are witnessing around ten-hour long outages while rural areas around 14-hour long power cuts.
Power generated through hydel plants has reduced to 1,800 MW from previous 7,000 MW.
IPPs are adding 6,000 MW , wind and solar plants are supplying 200 MW to the country while small hydel projects are producing 500 MW of electricity.
Ghazi-Braotha hrdopower plant is generating 400 MW against its full capacity of 1,100 MW.
