PM Nawaz Sharif reacts over Mashal Khan murder

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday took notice of the lynching of a student named Mashal Khan, who was beaten to death by students of Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan a couple of days ago for his liberal views.

“I am grieved at the death of Mashal Khan. The state must take action against those who take the law into their own hands,” he said in a statement.

Nawaz said that those who broke the law of the land were not entitled to any leniency. He ordered the arrest of all those involved in the incident.

Mashal Khan, a journalism student, was stripped, beaten, shot, and thrown from the second floor of his hostel at the Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan a couple of days ago, sources at the university said.

Graphic video footage from the scene shows dozens of men outside the hostel kicking and hurling projectiles at a body sprawled on the ground.

An Anti-Terrorism Court sent eight suspects who were allegedly involved in the murder into police custody for four days.
