ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan resumed the Panama Papers case hearing on January 18.
The counsel of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Makhdoom Ali Khan continued his arguments before a five-member larger Supreme Court bench as the apex court resumes hearing of the Panama case on Wednesday.
Chief Justice Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar had formed the SC bench comprising Supreme Court judges –Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Azmat Saeed, Justice Ijaz Afzal, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Ijaz-ul-Hasan – to hear the infamous case.
In his arguments to support PM Sharif, Makhdoom Ali Khan said Maryam Nawaz was not a dependent on her father (Nawaz Sharif) and that any exchange of money between prime minister and his children took place through banks.
“Prime Minister gave presents to Maryam Nawaz through banks,” said PM’s counsel in the case hearing.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed questioned Makhdoom Ali Khan that why bank records were not attested.
“You must have submitted documents in the court along with the reply,” he told PM’s counsel.
Makhdoom Ali Khan informed the court that it was a tough process to obtain certificates from all the banks. “We do not want to hide anything from the court,” he claimed.
