Pakistan - Denmark trade ties to be enhanced: Danish Ambassador

FAISALABAD: (APP) Trade volume between Pakistan and Denmark was improving but this volume was not depicting the real potential and could be improved further as there were huge investment opportunities in Pakistan, said Mr. Jakob Rogild Jakobsen Deputy Head of the Danish Mission in Islamabad.

Exchanging views with members of the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) during his visit on Tuesday, Jakob Rogild Jakobsen said Pakistan was a huge market which offered excellent opportunities to Danish businessmen in various sectors of economy particularly the textile sector.

He noted that both countries had been enjoying historical friendship and traditional cooperation in many fields for the past many years but more efforts must be made to further strengthen ties by holding business to business meetings, exchange of trade delegations and other such initiatives.

He stressed that Pakistan had great untapped potential which could be well utilized by cementing relationship between the business communities of both the countries. There was a dire need for exploring potentials in trade and commerce at bilateral level, he added.

Earlier, Chairman PTEA Ajmal Farooq thanked the Deputy Head of Danish Mission Mr. Jakob Rogild Jakobsen for visiting PTEA to exchange views with the members on issues of mutual interest, which surely would help in building relation between business community of Denmark and Pakistan.

He termed Denmark as an important trading partner within European Union, adding that both countries are two potential economies but the bilateral trade between the two countries were negligible which need to be enhanced. There are many significant opportunities for Pakistani and Danish businesses to create long lasting and highly valuable commercial partnerships, he said.

Pakistani textile exporters had been traditionally concentrating on European and American markets in the past and had built good reputation in home textiles and made ups, especially in bed linen, he said.

"We feel that it is the right time to re-design existing trade strategies to have a wider and pragmatic co-operation in trade and investment. We want to build a new relationship focused on common business interests", he added.

He stressed the need for frequent exchange of trade delegations, B2B interactions and establishment of display centers in both countries to further strengthen the trade ties.

He appreciated the Danish Government's support to Pakistan in securing GSP Plus status and hoped for similar type of assistance and cooperation from Danish government in future as well.
