Pakistan Afghanistan bilateral ties on upwards trajectory

Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz says relations with Afghanistan are improving after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on the sidelines of SCO summit in Astana.

In an informal chitchat with journalists in Islamabad today, he said consultations are underway on Pakistan-Afghanistan coordination mechanism.

The advisor said abolishment of the office of US special representative to Pakistan and Afghanistan will cast no impact on peace efforts in the region. He said bilateral coordination between Islamabad and Kabul is imperative before the meeting of quadrilateral core group on Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will visit Tajikistan on Wednesday to attend Pakistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan summit. He said leadership of both Pakistan and Afghanistan will likely to meet in Tajikistan on the sidelines of the summit.
