Opposition Leader appreciates Government Letter to SC over Panama Leaks

ISLAMABAD, April 22 (APP): Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah Friday lauded the Prime Minister for accepting the opposition's major demand to write a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan for setting up a commission to probe Panama papers.

Talking to a private news channel, Khursheed Shah said, "It was a unanimous decision of all opposition parties to write a letter to CJP for setting up a commission. However, some mis-conceptions were surfaced that judges are reluctant to become member of the commission."

He said the opposition proposed the government to write the letter to the CJP."If he (CJP) refuses then mull over the second option," he said.

He said that they were grateful to the PM for accepting their demand.  Shah said that they had also proposed forensic audit should be carried out through an international audit firm as it involved money and bank transactions. "The Terms of reference (TORs) should be audited by an international audit firm," he said.

Responding to a question, Shah said the Prime Minister took a right decision as it was a way forward to get rid of this scam.

He conceded the commission should also probe into mega scandals, kickbacks, written off bank loans etc.

Khursheed Shah said that every one should have complete trust in the commission as it would be under the superior judiciary.

He said they would also give their TORs for the commission adding that after setting up the commission there should be no justification for any protest.

Khursheed Shah said neither the opposition nor politicians, or national media levelled allegations against the Prime Minister and his family members. It was an international issue which was raised by the international media, he added.

To a question, he said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had also the same demand to write a letter to the CJP.

"After writing the letter to the CJP, there is no room for street protest against the government," he said.
