NA recommends to build airport in AJK

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Standing Committee of National Assembly on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Tuesday recommended to build full-fledged airport in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The Committee chaired by Malik Abrar Ahmed discussed improvement in tourism sector of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and AJK.

The officials of the departments presented their annual reports and informed the committee regarding potential tourism in the areas.

Comprehensive briefing on the improvement of the tourism sector was made by the representatives of AJK and GB governments in the light of the last year experiences.

The relevant secretaries briefed the committee in detail regarding historical background, present potential, latest policy, strategy including challenges and way forward.

The members gave different suggestions to attract the tourists and recommended to review international standards to attract the common people for in-land tourism.

The Chairman while concluding the meeting recommended the respective governments to engage the private sector with some incentive to build basic infrastructures.

He further advised the Ministry to sincerely consider the recommendations made by the concerned Secretaries in order to implement and improve the present state of affairs. Any impediments causing the developmental process should be resolved expeditiously, he added.

Moreover, the Ministry was advised to inform the Standing Committee about their recommendations and different questions raised by the Members during the meetings on regular basis.

The meeting was attended by the Members of the Committee Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Malik Abdul Ghaffar Dogar, Sardar Mumtaz Khan, Mian Imtiaz Ahmad, Shamas-un-Nissa, Junaid Akbar, Syed Waseem Hussain, Molvi Agha Muhammad and Senior Officials of the Ministry, AJK and GB government also attend the meeting.
