Marine Pollution Board to be established in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Minister for Climate Change Zahid Hamid on Wednesday directed to activate Marine Pollution Board (MPB).

The minister issued the directives during a meeting held to discuss marine issues in Pakistan.The minister called the meeting to consult all relevant departments to participate in "Our Ocean" conference going to be held in September 15 in US.

Pakistan was invited by Secretary of State of US John Karry through a letter, said a press release issued here on Wednesday.

The conference will focus on sustainable fisheries, marine pollution and climate-related impacts on the ocean.

"We have to actively participate in "Our Ocean" conference to highlight our maritime issues. This is an important event to show commitments to non -polluted oceans", said the Minister.

The recent surveys show that population of fishing is declining due to netting, climate Change issues and other wrong practices.

During a meeting Ministry of Science and Technology Dr Asif Inam informed the participants the production of Jellyfish is increasing.

He also briefed about climate change impacts on oceans. The cyclones have narrowed down in last couple of years.

He also suggested avoiding any installations and constructions at most vulnerable places.
