LHC reserves verdict on mantainability of plea against disqualification of CM, PM

LAHORE: Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday reserved the judgement on maintainability of a petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

Petitioner Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi, in his petition, alleged that the prime minister and his brother chief minister were defaulters of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) at the time they contested general election in 2013.

He asserted that a bank defaulter could not contest election under the law.

He said that that “both the premier and the chief minister did not meet the criteria for holding the public office as per the constitution”.

He requested the court to declare them disqualify, and also put a life time ban on them to contest election.
