KP lawyers welcome SC judgment in Panama case

PESHAWAR: Senior lawyers and constitutional experts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa on Thursday hailed the decision of Supreme Court in Panama Papers case and termed it victory of justice and rule of law in the country.

Senior constitutional expert and former President Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA), Abdul Latif Afridi said the Apex Court has taken a very bold and right decision by ordering Joint Investigation Team (JIT)."Making investigation in such like case was the mandate of NAB, FIA, FBR and other law enforcement," he said, adding that JIT was the best forum to investigate the issue.

He said Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Pakistan Awami League and Jamaat-i-Islami had failed to prove their allegations against the Sharif family.

The Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has emerged more powerful as the opponents failed to prove their allegations, he said.

The former PHCBA President said decision by majority judges was accepted in the law and in Panama papers case it will be valid.

Afridi said solid and concrete evidence was required to decide a case as court can't pass a judgment on mere speculations and newspapers' cuttings.

The PTI and other opposition political parties had failed to prove their allegations against Sharif Family as they can't produce solid evidence to prove their case, he added.

Afridi said there was no justification with political parties and opposition to make hue and cry on Panama papers now and urged them to cooperate with JIT for quick disposal of the case.

Alamzaib Khan, a senior lawyer and constitutional expert termed the decision of Apex Court as victory of law and justice, saying decisions passed with majority of judges in a bench are acceptable in a law.

He said majority of judges has ordered formation of JIT for investigation, which means that the Apex Court wanted complete inquiry in the case so that no injustice should be made with anyone.

Terming the verdict as a victory of justice and people, the noted lawyer said formation of a joint investigation team was a victory for the PML-N as opposition had failed to provide any solid evidence to prove their allegations.

Alamzaib, who is also PMLN Lawyers Wing President KP said PM Nawaz Sharif has emerged victorious and more powerful after the judgment and will continue to works for progress and prosperity of people.

Former Advocate General KP, Esa Khan advocate said SC judgment was clear and the decision is based on justice.

He said SC passed judgment on merit.

He said investigation in such an important case was not the duty of the court rather it was the responsibility of NAB, FBR and FIA to probe the case. (APP)
