KP becomes the first province to introduce Transgender Rights in Pakistan

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has prepared a draft policy for transgenders and a committee comprising of all stakeholders has been constituted to review the draft.

This was announced by Social Welfare Parliamentary Secretary Zarin Zia in the provincial assembly in response to a question posed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member Amna Sardar, during the question-hour session of the house. The draft policy would be later presented in the house after consultations with stakeholders.

In her question, the PML-N legislator had asked about the steps taken by the provincial government for guaranteeing the rights of transgenders in the province.

She said that KP was the first province of the country to have passed a resolution for the rights of transgenders, while adding that the trend was later adopted by other provinces as well.
