Karachi Police starts crackdown against protestors at Star Gate, Numaish Chowrangi

KARACHI: The Karachi police started tear gas shelling religious protestors gathered at Karachi’s Star Gate. The protest have extended from the area to multiple regions in Karachi including Numaish Chowrangi.

Chief Minister Sindh (CM) Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of sit-ins and protests in various areas of Karachi, and has directed Inspector General (IG) Sindh AD Khawaja and Commissioner Karachi Aijaz Ahmed Khan to deploy police and law enforcement agencies and disperse the protesters.

“No one will be allowed to paralyse the city,” CM said. He also directed DIG traffic to ensure smooth traffic flow in the city.

Contingents of police forces headed by SSP Malir Rao Anwar have reached Star Gate Chowrangi.

Due to the sit-in, the Hassan Square Bridge road has been closed for traffic, it has instead been directed towards NIPA and Stadium Road. And from New Town to Ghareebabad, traffic staff is present in multiple areas across the city to tone down traffic.

According to Traffic Police officials, both roads of MA Jinnah are closed due to protest at Numaish Chowk. Traffic diversions; Nawa-e-Waqt to PPP Chowrangi and Capri to Saddar Dawakhana and Soldier Bazar.
