Indian forces grand offensive against protesters denounced

ISLAMABAD: Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has condemned the military operation carried out by Indian forces in scores of villages of Shopian district, Indian occupied Kashmir.

According to KMS, forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said, "The harsh crackdown and search operations on scores of villages in Shopian by the Indian forces in which helicopters were also used is tantamount to war against civilian population.

Thousands of people were subjected to unwarranted repression and harassment by restricting them to their homes."

He said that Indian government was writing a new black history of human rights violations in occupied Kashmir. Recent aggressive and anti-Kashmir statements by Indian politicians and military officials have led them to declare an open war against civilian Kashmiris, he added.

The spokesman said that the aim of this military expedition against Kashmiris was to muzzle all voices being raised for basic political right, the right to self-determination, and to suppress the ongoing freedom struggle through military might.

He said that the military operation against people in South Kashmir would add fuel to the fire since the situation was already explosive in the territory. He said that such actions would in no way help to resolve the long-pending Kashmir dispute.

Meanwhile, the spokesman condemned the use of force against the students who staged demonstrations in Sopore town. Scores of students were injured after Indian forces fired pellets on the protesting students. (APP)
