NEW DELHI: Former Indian Diplomat Madhuri Gupta is accused of allegedly spying for Pakistan ISI and may be imprisoned for 14 years.
She was a second secretary at Indian High Commission in Islamabad and arrested on April 27, 2010.
The court charged her under Official Secrets Act for spying on January 7, 2012 which carries maximum sentence of three years.
Police challenged the order in trial court and demanded to sentence Gupta under Official Secrets Act, section 3(1) (part-l) which attracts punishment of up to 14 years.
Police claimed that Gupta allegedly shared information of national security and defence with ISI through emails.
As per charge-sheet filled in July 2010, Gupta was in touch with two ISI officials through computer and Blackberry phone provided by them.
However Gupta denied all charges and claimed to be innocent.
Indian authorities have also captured an Indian Air Force IAF official for allegedly spying for Pakistani premier Spy Agency ISI which they claimed was Honey Trapped through Facebook.
