India to acquire Predator drones from US

NEW DELHI: India submitted a letter of request (LoR) to US to acquire US patrol drones to protect its maritime assets in Indian Ocean.

 

As per report, India seeks to purchase multi mission maritime patrol Predator Guardian UAV’s from General Atomics.

The drone is capable to fly at an attitude of 50,000 feet for more than 24 hours continuously and could monitor even a football size object.

 

Sources claimed that Modi held talks with Obama about maritime security earlier this month.

 

As per details “Earlier this month, President Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi affirmed their support for US-India cooperation in promoting maritime security.”

 

US declared India as a major defence partner and also supports India’s membership for NSG.

 

Recently,  White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest revealed that US strongly supports India’s request to join NSG and calls on member states to support India’s application.
