India refutes Tayyip Erdogan offer of Indo-Pak mediation on Kashmir

LAHORE – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has on Sunday expressed willingness to be involved in the resolution of the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan. He also called for an end to the casualties in the Valley and said that his country could help Pakistan and India find a solution to Kashmir issue.

“We should not allow more casualties to occur and by strengthening multilateral dialogue, we can be involved, and through multilateral dialogue, I think we have to seek out ways to settle this question once and for all, which will benefit both countries”, said Erdogan while talking to World Is One News (WOIN).

Erdogan said in the interview that India and Pakistan should begin a ‘multilateral’ dialogue in order to resolve the Kashmir issue. The Turkish president also said that India and Pakistan both had the right to aspire Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

Turkish President’s statements are exactly in accordance with the joint statement issued during his Pakistan visit in November last, when he had expressed undeterred support for the solution of the Kashmir issue in the light of UN resolutions.

It is pertinent to mention here that the interview has come hours after the Indian government expressed solid support for Cyprus. Turkish President is going to hold talks with Indian PM Narendra Modi on May 1 on his India visit. The Indian media hasn’ taken Erdogan’s statement positively and Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson has said that India believed the Kahsmir issue to be bilateral one and had avoided ‘third party intervention’ since 1972.
