Imran Khan puts weight behind Army on Dawn Leaks report

KARACHIPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan on Sunday said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will have to answer for the allegations levelled at the army in the Dawn Leaks scandal.

“The prime minister of a democratic state should be answerable to the nation if he criticises the country’s armed forces when they are engaged in war,” he said at the PTI’s Huqooq-e-Karachi rally on Sunday.

He lashed out at both Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the Pakistan Peoples Party for laundering money and promoting a culture of corruption in the country.

“The Panamagate case is vital to hold accountable all those leaders who were involved in money laundering. This case will decide the fate of Pakistan … it will decide whether Pakistan will remain a country of plunderers, like Zardari or Nawaz, or whether it will be a democracy,” he said.

Imran urged participants of the rally to demand Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation because he had no moral ground to remain in power after the Supreme Court’s Panamagate judgement.

“After five judges of the Supreme Court have stated that Nawaz Sharif is a liar and have brushed aside the Qatari prince’s letter, he cannot continue to serve as prime minister of the country,” Imran said.
