IHC rejects protective bail of Ex MNA

ISLAMABAD (APP): The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday rejected protective bail of former parliamentarian Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan and his wife, Ex. MNA Asma Arbab Alamgir in a case of allegedly accumulating wealth beyond known sources of income.

A Division Bench, headed by Justice Aamir Farooq, comprising Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, rejected the bail application moved by the ex-parliamentarians through their counsel Barrister Masroor Shan.

Barrister Masroor Shah argued that his clients were willingly to face court proceedings and decided to participate in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) inquiry but it came into notice through media that authority would arrest both on their arrival in Pakistan.

He cited statement of Director General NAB Khybar Pakhtunkhwa aired on TV channels regarding arrests and sought protective bail to appear before the court without taking into custody.

Shah further cited Sharjil Mamon, a leader of PPP's protective bail in a similar case however the bench objected and said there was different circumstance that NAB did not raise any objections in that case regarding arrest.

The bench remarked that first of all accused should appear before the court, then it would look into the matter. The court adjourned the matter till April 10.

It is pertinent to mention here that both are residing in Dubai for the last two years.
