Hurriyat leaders flay attack on Kashmiris in Tihar Jail

ISLAMABAD: Hurriyat leaders have expressed concern over the vengeful attitude of authorities in Tihar jail against Kashmiri political prisoners, saying they are being subjected to mental agony and torture.

 

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) General Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Sumji in a statement issued in Srinagar said that it was a serious violation of the UN Charter's rights to prisoners (KMS), KMS reported.

 

He criticized authorities for their unsympathetic attitude towards prisoners and apprehended threats to the life of Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Dr Ghulam Mohammad Butt, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Pir Saifullah, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal, Farooq Ahmed Dar, Shahid- ul-Islam, Muzaffar Ahmed Dar, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Aslam Wani and Zahoor Ahmad Watali.

 

The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) in a statement in Srinagar strongly condemned the brutal attack on Kashmiri inmates at Tihar jail in which two detainees, Muhammad Shafi and Javed Ahmad sustained injuries.

 

The Democratic Freedom Party in its statement in Srinagar termed the attitude of authorities in Tihar jail against Kashmiri prisoners as based on political vengeance.

 

"There is a threat to life of prisoners," the party said, adding, the families of these prisoners are going through a deep mental agony. It also condemned the baseless charges against its Chairman Shabbir Ahmad Shah.

 

Illegally detained Chairman of Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM), Dr Muhammad Qasim in a statement condemned the attack on Javaid Ahmad and Muhammad Shafi in Tihar jail. He said, "This attack is a well planned conspiracy against Kashmiri inmates in jails outside Kashmir," Dr he added.

 

Meanwhile, Hurriyat Ghulam Nabi Sumji paid rich tributes to resistance leaders, Masarat Alam Butt, Aasiya Andrabi and Fehmeda Sofi for their persistence and steadfastness, saying their continuous and unlawful detention tantamount to disrespect to law and justice.
