Hindu girl Geeta meets Modi in New Delhi, Modi announces Rs. 10 million for Edhi foundation

NEW DELHI: Indian PM Modi also telephoned  PM Nawaz Sharif and thanked him for the efforts in ensuring Geeta’ safe return. In his tweet Modi said “What the Edhi family has done is too priceless to be measured but I am happy to announce a contribution of Rs10 million for their foundation’’. Geeta, born with a hearing and speech impairment, crossed the border into Pakistan as a child when she ran to protect herself from an explosion and was caught by the border security forces however the details of her crossing remain inconsistent. Geeta was handed over to the Edhi foundation for shelter where Bilquis took Geeta into her protection. Unfortunately, Geeta did not recognize the family she thought was hers. Foreign minister Sushma sawaraj said at press conference alongside Geeta that after meeting with Mahato family she could not recognize them. Sushma also said that if the DNA test result confirmed that the family was not hers then she would remain in an institution and we would keep searching for her real one.
