NEW DELHI: In the midst of a standoff on Doklam plateau, India reiterated from its stance towards China with foreign secretary S Jaishankar stressing "differences should not become disputes", a phrase used earlier by PM Modi in his talks with Xi JinPing.
Delivering an address in Singapore on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of India-Asean ties, Jaishankar called upon China to exercise the "strategic maturity" it is reputed to have.
Without playing up the current confrontation between the two Asian powers, he said, "The fact is that today, India-China relations are really multi-faceted.

Last month, when the leaders of the two countries met at Astana, they reached consensus on two key points: (a) that at a time of global uncertainty, India-China relations are a factor of stability, and (b) in their relationship, India and China must not allow it to become a dispute.
