Former Defence Secretary was removed for refusing to sign document of Memogate scandal

ISLAMABAD: Former defense secretary Lt Gen (r) Naeem Khalid Lodhi has revealed that the then prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani removed him because of Memogate scandal.

Gillani wanted me to sign a document, he said.

Upon refusing, Lodhi said that he was given a warning of disturbing consequences.

The former prime minister’s move had come amid tensions over an unsigned memo that sought US help in reining in Pakistan’s generals.

Earlier a document revealed that former prime minister Gillani had authorized Hussain Haqqani, former ambassador to the US, to issue visas to Americans without informing the departments concerned.
