FIA cracks down against Hundi-Hawala business in Lahore, seizes Rs 26 crores

LAHORE: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) detained six suspects for hundi business in Lahore and confiscated foreign currency worth Rs26 crore from their possession.

A team under the supervision of Deputy Director Jamil Ahmed Khan Mayo held a raid at Pracha currency exchange in Anarkali and apprehended the suspects along with 1.3 million Saudi riyal, 1 million Irani currency, 1.60 lac Norway krone, 1 million Japanese yen, Malaysian ringgit, Swiss francs, US and Canadian dollar and Rs 14 crore Pakistani currency.

According to FIA, hundi and hawala business was running under the guise of money exchanger. 

Sources told acting on the directives of Interior Ministry, FIA has arrested a number of people involved in hundi and hawala business.
