Ex-MNA booked by KP Ehtesab Commssion for embezzling Rs 130 million

PESHAWAR Former member of the National Assembly (MNA) Sardar Mushtaq along with 14 others have been booked by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ehtesab Commission (KPEC) on the charges of corruption involving over Rs 130 million in the acquisition of land for Worker Welfare Board (WWB) for the construction of Labour Complex Haripur.

The case was once investigated by the National Accountability Bureau, but it was closed due to lack of requisite evidence.

The KP Ehtesab Commission Director General taking cognizance of alleged embezzlement by the public office holders of Revenue Department and WWB in active connivance of private land owners caused loss of over Rs 130 million to national kitty.

All the accused while in league with one another had changed the status of the land by tampering the revenue record on the basis of which the land owners had claimed higher amount on exorbitant rates.

Public office holders were found involved in the commission of offence by illegal determination of the price of the land with the active connivance of the land owners, who had illegally enhanced the price of the acquired land in order to benefit the private land owners (co-accused), a KPEC press release said here Wednesday.

It added that according to investigation conducted by KPEC different modus operandies were adopted to determine the price of land on exorbitant rates. For the purpose the revenue record was either replaced, torn or altered and in some other cases it was tempered, concealed or removed.

Ex-Chaiman Worker Welfare Board Tariq Awan, Ex DOR Haripur Latif-ur-Rehman, Ex-Tehsildar Haider Zaman and Ex- Patwari, Amjid Shehzad and others had fraudulently allowed the private persons to gain benefit which could have been prevented by lawful exercise of authority, the KPEC alleged.
