CPEC: MoU cannot be made public being sensitive matter between two states

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal Thursday told Senate that he would present to the Chairman Senate the documents related to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between China and Pakistan regarding China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He said the members of the Upper House would also be able to review the documents; however, for being a matter between the two countries, the documents could not be made public.

He told the House that he was a signatory on the documents from Pakistan side and the MoU defined a framework for the project.

The minister said a high-powered committee had been formed as a steering mechanism and joint working groups would be formed to examine various proposals.

He said any agreement to be signed between the two countries would be tabled for approval.

Later, speaking on a point of order, Leader of the Opposition in Senate Aitzaz Ahsan said despite passage of six years, the victim families of the Airblue crash had not yet been paid compensation.

The House also offered Fateha for forgiveness of the departed souls in the tragic incident.
