CJP takes notice of cutting of green trees in Baluchistan

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken notice of cutting of trees for extension of road in Balochistan.

The notice was taken on an application that a 10 kilometer Pishin-Yaroo Link Road, District Pishin, Balochistan is being widened that has caused threat to about 2200 green trees on both sides of the road. However, these trees could be saved by earmarking alternate route but none of the departments working on the project took pains to save the green trees which are not less than an asset in droughty and hilly areas of Balochistan.

Earlier, reports were called from concerned departments of Government of Balochistan i.e. Secretary Communication and Works, Secretary Forest, DG, Environmental Protection Agency and Deputy Commissioner, Pishin about the issue.

From the reports, it transpired that the project was a potential threat to about 2200 trees but owing to action of Supreme Court, about 2100 green trees have been saved.

Finding the reports unsatisfactory, Chief Justice of Pakistan directed the office to register the matter as Suo Moto Notice under Article 184(3) of the Constitution and fix the matter in Court. (APP)
