Captain (r) Safdar arrested from Islamabad Airport

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) authorities have on Monday arrested former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar in multiple corruption cases.

Captain Mohammad Safdar, who is also a member of the lower house, the National Assembly, was taken into custody at the Islamabad airport in the wee hours of Monday soon after his return from London with his wife Maryam Nawaz.

Hundreds of ruling Pakistan Muslim League workers surrounded the vehicle in which Captain Safdar was being shifted to an investigation center. Many of them laid in front of the vehicle as police tried to hold off the protesters.

On October 2, the accountability court (AC) had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Nawaz Sharif’s two sons Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar, and bailable warrants for his daughter Maryam Nawaz for deliberating avoiding the court proceedings.

Captain Safdar will appear before the anti-corruption court on Monday. Sharif’s two sons who are British nationals, chose not to appear before the court.
