Balochistan students kick off inter-provincial harmony journey

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Nearly 200 students of seven universities from Balochistan started Tuesday a weeklong journey of inter-provincial harmony by interacting with administrative heads and faculty members of educational institutions.
The initiative, which kicked off from Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), was the idea of Balochistan Chief Minister and Head Quarters Southern Command, supported by the Higher Education Commission.
Besides the federal capital, the students would visit some other cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The students led by Vice Chancellor University of Balochistan Prof Dr Javed Iqbal took round of various departments of AIOU and appreciated its rich academic strength and infrastructure network.
They noted that the AIOU with 1.3 million students and 44 regional offices, including seven in Balochistan, was doing a commendable job in promoting literacy and higher education through its various academic programmes.
AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui apprised the students about the university's achievements in educational sector since its establishment and the initiatives to spread quality educational in the country.
The AIOU, he said, was specially focusing on less-developed and remote regions, including those of Balochistan. It would soon enter into an agreement with seven universities of the province to share their academic strength and educational experience, he added.
Dr Siddiqui lauded the rich potential and talent of the students from Balochistan and said they needed to focus on their education, enabling themselves to play positive and constructive role in the country's socio-economic development.
VC University of Balochistan Dr Iqbal spoke on the occasion about the important role of the youth in national development underlining the need of keeping them on board in the national affairs.
The visit, he said, was a revolutionary step towards development of national harmony and unity among various ethnic and linguistic groups of the society. The Baluchistan University's traditional academic strength had been revived and now it was playing a leading role in the educational sector.
He also praised the AIOU's educational contribution, particularly its vice chancellor's new initiatives making it world's best university in distance education.
