Asif Zardari takes hardliner stance on HR abuses in IHK

ISLAMABAD (APP): Former President Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the killings of innocent people in Indian Held Kashmir (IHK) and arrest of several Kashmiri leaders, and called upon the international community to take notice of grave human rights violations in Kashmir.

Asif Zardari, in a statement, said he was shocked at how the Indian security forces resorted to use of indiscriminate force to punish people, who were exercising their legitimate right to protest.

The killing of demonstrators was reprehensible.

He said the latest surge in protests in different parts of held Kashmir should persuade the Indian authorities to look inwardly and ask themselves as to why Kashmiris were up in arms against the New Delhi rule.

Unfortunately, he said, this was a question which a very few Indians would ask and fewer still were prepared to listen an honest answer to it.

The resolution of Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes of its people was the only viable way forward, the former President said.

He said the world must wake up to the murder of human rights in the Indian Held Kashmir. It would be a great tragedy if the world looked the other way as innocent people were killed and tortured in Kashmir.
