American actress and singer Lindsay Lohan claims she was intimidated when subjected to racial profiling due to her headwear.
The incident occurred while Lohan was travelling from Heathrow to New York recently.
The actress, who caused a stir when she was spotted with a copy of the Quran in 2015, said security officials apologised after she removed her headscarf to reveal her identity.
Lohan said she felt “scared” for others who’d not want to remove their headwear.
The actress has not spoken openly about converting to Islam but admitted it is "a consideration."
While talking to Good Morning Britain, she said: “I was wearing a headscarf and I got stopped at the airport and racially profiled...the first time in my life. She opened my passport and saw 'Lindsay Lohan' and started immediately apologising, but then said 'please take off your headscarf.'”
The actress spoke about how Hollywood stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly covered up with big glasses and headscarves to avoid the paparazzi.
Discussing her own experience, she said: "I was doing it because I was leaving Turkey and out of respect for certain countries I go to when I see certain people I feel comfortable acting the same as other women. That's just a personal respect issue for me.”
"And it was also really early but I felt more comfortable that way. And then I felt a little scared," she added.
When asked about her pictures carrying a copy of the Quran, Lohan said: "I find a solace in studying, not just the Quran, but other religions. Just like meditation.
"Something that feeds my soul and learning different cultures and beliefs and the Islamic culture I've found a lot of people, I feel like it's a family to me. A lot of my friends are Arab, and they've been really good people to me," said the actress turned singer.
