KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party on Monday tabled a bill in the Sindh Assembly, seeking to rename Altaf Hussain University in Karachi and Hyderabad.
The bill was presented by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nisar Khoro demanding that the university be renamed Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, the sister of founding father of Pakistan.
The MQM has faced cracked down after Altaf Hussain’s August 22 speech in which he made anti-Pakistan remarks. The speech had also led to an attack on a media house last year and caused major defections in the MQM.
The Lahore High Court had slapped a media ban on Altaf Hussain months before the eventful day of August 22 which saw his party split into two factions. Majority of lawmakers of the MQM parted ways with the exiled leadership of the party and named their faction of the party as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
