AJK government pays homage to Iqbal on 79th death anniversary

MIRPUR (AJK): People of Azad Jammu and Kashmir living on either sides of the Line of Control Friday observed 79th death anniversary of the poet of the East Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal with the renewal of the pledge to continue their struggle for liberation of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir from Indian rule.

In AJK, various cultural, political and social organizations held meetings and seminars to pay homage and highlighted the services rendered by the great visionary of 20th century.

Major ceremony, comprising a grand poetic sitting (Mehfil e Mushaira) to mark the death anniversary of Iqbal was held in the capital on Friday under the auspices of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Cultural Academy.

The grand poetic gathering titled "Mehfil e Mushaira in the Backdrop of Kashmir Issue - on the Eve of Death Anniversary of Allama Iqbal," was attended among others by Commissioner Muzaffarabad division Muhammad Tayyeb, chief guests of the ceremony Mr and Mrs Zahid from Glasgow (Scotland), Retired Secretary to AJK government, Member AJK PSC and the poet scholar Akram Sohail, Director General AJK Cultural Academy Raja Muhammad Aslam, Secretary Kashmir Liberation Cell Raja Sajjad, local poets including Syeda Amina Bahaar, Naz Muzaffarabadi and Javeid ul Hassan Javed.

The participants emphasized the need of acting upon the sayings of the great poet and philosopher who envisioned the idea of the emergence of separate home land for the Muslims of the Sub-continent.

The participants also offered fateha for the departed soul praying for the solidarity, integrity and prosperity of the country besides for the early success of the Kashmiris struggle for freedom.

In Mirpur speakers paid rich tributes to the poet philosopher at a special ceremony held in a local educational institution. A delegation from Mirpur visited the tomb of Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal in Lahore and laid wreaths to pay homage to great poet philosopher. (APP)
