Afzal Guru role in 2001 Parliament attacks in India was doubtful: Chidambaram
NEW DELHI: India’s Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram claimed that Afzal Guru’s role in 2001 Parliament attack was doubtful and there was possibility to hold an honest opinion in that matter.

He said “I think it is possible to hold an honest opinion that the Afzal Guru case was perhaps not correctly decided.”

Afzal Guru was convicted by Supreme Court of India in 2001 for sedition charges.

Afzal Guru was hanged on February 9, 2013 in Delhi’s Tahir jail.

Chidambaram’s statement came in the backdrop of JNU incident in which three students are arrested for sedition charges.

The JNU students hold a protest to express their solidarity with martyred Afzal Guru.

They echoed pro-Pakistan and rose anti India slogans during the event.

JNU student union leader was arrested for sedition charges and imprisoned in the Tahir jail.

Chidambaram claimed that putting sedition charges against JNU students was “outrages”.
