Compulsory teaching of Holy Quran bill 2017 approved by NA body

ISLAMABAD: (APP) National Assembly Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training on Wednesday unanimously passed the Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran Bill, 2017.
The committee met here at the Parliament Lodges under the chairmanship of MNA Col (Retd) Dr Amirullah Marwat.
Chairman of the committee said the Compulsory Teaching of the Holy Quran Bill, 2017 was one of the good steps which would benefit the students from Class 1 to 12.
All the members of the committee appreciated the bill and approved it unanimously.
Chairman Amirullah Marwat said Quran would be taught with Nazra from class 1 to 5th and students would be taught Quran with translation from class 6th to 12th.
Minister of State for Federal Education & Professional Training Baligh ur Rehman thanked the chairman and members of the committee for approving the bill.
In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of the bill and said that it was people demand and need of the hour to introduce this bill.
The committee recommended allocation of Rs 3205.039 million for ten ongoing and seven new unapproved schemes of ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training for the year 2017-18 under Public Sector Development Programme.
The committee also discussed another government bill `the Apprenticeship Bill, 2017' and decided to further discuss it in next meeting.
The committee recommended that adequate security should be provided to all the educational institutions across the country.
It also recommended that budget for education should be increased by 3 percent of the total budget for the year 2017-18.
Chairman of the committee said education was basically the real game changer and more budgets should be spent on the education.
The committee also discussed the case of harassment with a female staff COMSATs Institute of Information Technology and directed the Rector COMSATs to take strict exemplary action against the accused in the said case after fulfillment of legal requirements.
The committee said it was unacceptable and such elements should be punished strictly to provide working environment to our female workers in educational institutions. The committee also stressed for improvement of educational curriculum.
Earlier, the senior officials of Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training briefed the committee about the steps taken for the improvement of education system in the country.
Minister of State said number of schemes was in pipeline for the improvement in the vocational and technical education system. The officials of Pakistan Manpower Institute also briefed the committee.
The meeting was attended by members of the committee including MNAs Muhammad Nazir Khan, Dr Zulfikar Ali Bhatti, Shaista Pervaiz, Asiya Naz Tanoli, Rida Khan, Amra Khan, Chaudhary Hamid Hameed, Surriya Asghar, Dr. Shazia Sobia, Shahida Rehmani, Dr Imran Khattak, Dr Nikhat Shakeel Khan, Shahida Akhtar Ali, and Sardar Kamal Khan Bangulzai and officers/officials of the ministry and its attached departments.
