Punjab Assembly adopts four resolutions on August 30

LAHORE: (APP) The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday adopted four private members resolutions urging the government to set up Water and Sanitation Agency in Bahawalpur, facilitate the disabled persons in public transport, repair river banks in PP-31 Sargodha and clean drains in the wake of rainy season.
The resolutions were tabled by Dr Wasim Akhtar, Faiza Mushtaq, Mian Manazir Ranjha and Ahmed Khan Bichar. The fifth resolution by Makhdoom Syed Murtaza Mehmood was disposed of.
The House also granted extension in time to the Public Accounts Committee-I and Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Development for presentation of their reports.
Earlier, the session was started with Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal in the chair.
During question-hour session, provincial Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed responding to queries regarding School Education Department told the House that the government was attaching high importance to education and in this regard it made hefty allocation for this vital sector. He said, a number of steps had been taken to enhance literacy rate under Chief Minister Vision 2020.
He said, schools were being upgraded and all necessary facilities being provided to the students.
To a question raised by Faiza Ahmed Malik, the Minister said administrative affairs of all girls high schools were handed over to the Care Foundation under an agreement.
He said, in Lahore 167 and 13 in Sheikhupura primary, middle and high schools were under administrative control of the Care Foundation. The salary of each staff, he said, had been fixed a minimum of Rs 4,000.
About question from member Nighat Nasir Sheikh, he said Govt Girls High Secondary School, Singhpura had ten computers and as soon as funds were available more computers would be provided.
He told a questioner Saadia Sohail Raana that two kanal land of Govt Girls Middle School Faisalabad had been retrieved from land grabbers and a letter had already been written to the DCO Faisalabad for construction of four boundary of the school.
The Minister responded to as many as 10 out of 36 starred Questions on the floor of the House while eight were disposed of due to the absence of movers. The lawmakers also asked 21 supplementary questions from Rana Mashhood Ahmed.
In response to debate by Opposition leader Mian Mehmoodur Rashid, Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan PML-N always played a politics of nobility and decency but he said opposition especially the PTI was practicing politics of container and rallies aiming at hindering national development.
Without mentioning PTI Chief, he said he wanted to create instability in the country. On this, opposition leader objected and said they would not tolerate any criticism upon their leadership then the Law Minister said he did not name Imran Khan.
Rana Sana maintained that Altaf Hussain through his three minutes speech had spoiled his political career once for all. Visualizing a well thought planning behind Altaf Hussain's move he said it was to create disintegration in the country.
The Minister made it crystal clear that their agenda was national progress, prosperity and peace. He blamed that two persons were leading the country towards instability.
The House deferred four Adjournment Motions submitted by lawmakers belonging to PML-N, PTI and PML-Q regarding terrorists network in the province, sale of unsafe milk in Sialkot, spread of hepatitis and illegal issuance of alcohol licenses
The House also kept pending two Zero Hour Notices regarding commercialization in Wapda Town, Lahore and floods in Layyah district.
On completion of day's agenda, the chair adjourned the Houses till Wednesday morning.
